Are you Transferring and Ready to be Certified?
General Education (GE) is one of the key components of earning your Associate degree or transferring to a four-year institution. A GE certification is an official document from SDCCD which certifies that a student, who is transferring to a four year institution, has met the requirements of a particular GE pattern.
GE Pattern Certification
Effective May 1, 2026 Full General Education Certification for Cal-GETC, UC/CSU IGETC, and CSU GE Breadth, will be included in the student’s Official Transcript. This means students will no longer need to submit a separate GE Certification request. Instead, they simply need to request an Official Transcript through Parchment to be sent to their desired institution.
Partial certification and certifications for students with catalog rights prior to Fall 2023 will still need to submit a Request for General Education Certification.
Requirements for GE Certification
- A request for certification can only be submitted once a student has been accepted to a transferring university.
- All transcripts from previous colleges and universities attended must be on file. See the Transcript section for detailed information.
- Students with AP/IB/CLEP exams must submit scores prior to submitting the Request for General Education Certification if they are using them to meet requirements. Information on the use of Standardized Tests scores for credit and certification requirements can be found in the catalog.
Request Processing
General Education Certifications are now automatically on your official transcripts upon completion of coursework. It is only necessary to submit a request for GE certification if you are requesting a partial certification or using catalog rights prior to Fall 2023.
- Requests for general education certifications can take up to four weeks for processing.
- Students should plan ahead to ensure that they submit their GE certification requests early.
- Once the certification is processed, the original certification is sent to the University and address indicated on the request form.
Request for GE Cert Deadline
- If applicable, submit your Request for General Education Certification to SDCCD by June 30, 2026.
- Official transcripts can be ordered directly through Parchment.
- Remember to check with your transfer institution and ensure you are meeting deadlines.
